A violent initiation incident at Parktown Boys' High has come to the fore - just one month after the Joburg school made headlines for a similar incident.
A parent, who spoke to The Star on condition of anonymity, said one of the boys who was an instigator in last month's initiation allegedly attacked a Grade 10 pupil on Tuesday.
The matric boy, who cannot be named as he is under age, allegedly held a "haircut inspection" and lined up a group of Grade 10s on a grandstand. He then pulled out one of the boys and swore at him about his haircut.
According to the parent, the matric pupil then kicked the boy in the chest, causing him to fall, hitting his head at the bottom of the stand. The matric pupil then carried on attacking him.
The mother of the complainant did not want to speak to The Star, saying the school was handling the matter and was "very supportive".
The Gauteng Department of Education confirmed that the incident happened and said the headmaster and his deputy were conducting an investigation. A disciplinary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
Last month, The Star broke the story of a group of Grade 11s initiated by Grade 12s at the school's Druce Hall hostel.
Pene Kimber broke the silence on a tradition that has allegedly been operating in the school for years. Her son (and other pupils) had allegedly been lined up against the wall and hit with hockey sticks, golf clubs and cricket bats until their buttocks bled.
He was also made to rub Deep Heat on his genitals. Kimber laid charges of assault against the school.
After the initiation incident was reported in The Star, a teacher was suspended from the hostel and the head boy of the hostel was removed from his position.
