Respect needed at Parktown Boys High

The Star,March 10, 2009 Edition 1

I have been following the Parktown Boys High School story.

As a proud ex-Parktonian from the era 1959-1962 we were also subjected to certain tough, time consuming and athletically taxing initiations, albeit none so violent as to cause bodily harm.

I blame the general lack of discipline and respect of the pupils and the inability of the teachers to manage the pupils.

Respect is something that you cannot buy or force upon someone - you have to earn respect.

In our days, this disgusting incident would have without question, after a thorough investigation, resulted in expulsion of all guilty parties - now they are merely on an extended holiday.
